Long-term monitoring of tidal elevation relative to mean sea level (MSL) is important to our understanding of ecosystem state change in response to long-term trends in relative sea-level rise (RSLR). The rate of RSLR in the VCR/LTER lagoons is between 3.8 – 4.0 mm per year and is the highest among the east coast LTER sites.
The VCR/LTER currently operates three tide stations: one in Oyster Harbor at the ABCRC lab, one in Redbank, VA and one near Hog Island. There are plans to install additional tide stations in Gargathy Bay, Magothy Bay and near Cobb Island. |
