The McMurdo database has undergone a comprehensive upgrade of the web-site by the previous database manager. The new database manager started on July 1st and has begun to develop and implement the vision of the project's future data management and access plan. This consists of continuing the transfer of data from the current flat-file format and MicroSoft Access to Oracle8i. Once this transfer is complete, the web-interface will be redesigned to incorporate data-mining capabilities from Oracle via spatial and temporal queries.

Concurrently, the hardware is being expanded to include: 1) Sun Ultra Enterprise 150 as the primary data-storage/Oracle8i server 2) New SunBlade 1000 intended for complex modeling, statistical analyses, and GIS capabilities 3) A new Dell GX400 1.8GHZ Desktop for field data interpretation 4) SparcStation5 as a Client

The GIS has been handled at the University of New Hampshire with the creation of a scripted web-based overlay tool titled VALMAP.
