Niwot Ridge has obtained a new Data Manager as of February. The functionality/stability of our data management program was tested as it ran on auto-pilot from November to January, everything was stable as I started the position. The GIS Coordinator as well as Mike Hartman, the previous Data Manager, both left their positions in November, and as of now the Data Manager serves as both GIS Coordinator and Data Manager. After a brief learning period, the program is now running smoothly, with data entry/re-key, data processing, archival, an posting, taking place in a timely fashion.

We have updated our server from a Sun Ultra 1 to an Ultra 60. A new project has begun to standardize our GIS metadata, as well as to standardize a single projection for all spatial data. ArcSDE for Coverages has recently been applied in order to allow graduate students easier access to the GIS coverages. This process is running parallel to the standardization so that only coverages with the proper projection/metadata are available via ArcSDE.

Last week we had our Site Review, which went rather well. The review was a positive and informative experience. We are eagerly awaiting the report in order to implement the suggestions made by the Data Management reviewer.
