Biodiveristy Progress
Dear Biodiversity Working Group,
A couple of items....
1) Has everyone been successful in contacting and meeting with the faculty
advisor listed for that area? Let me know if you are encountering problems...
2) I'd like to get started on developing the "data model" for the
biodiversity information. The first step in that process is to identify the
"types" of information that the database should contain.
I'd like from you a list of the types of data available for your taxa. This
should include the taxonomic levels (Order, Family, Sub-family, Genus,
Species, Variety) that are important for your taxa (some taxa are very
difficult to identify down to the species level), what sort of information
on geographical location and habitat are available and what classes of
natural history information are available.
If it would be easier for you, just email the group a copy of what you think
the ultimate output from the database should look like for your taxa. You
may want to use the species records from the preliminary VCR LTER vegetation
database or the fish database at http://atlantic.evsc.virginia.edu/data.html
as a starting point for that listing.
Please address your responses to biod@amazon.evsc.virginia.edu so we can all
keep in touch with what everyone is doing.
